Organizations across industries are incorporating or evaluating AI to improve workflow, increase productivity, and reduce costs. The Federal Government is doing the same. The Department of Defense has taken an especially assertive approach, issuing an AI Strategy earlier this year that outlines seven “Pace-Setting Projects” to accelerate AI development and deployment in support of DoD missions.
The government’s rapid adoption of AI creates significant opportunities for companies seeking to market and sell AI solutions. However, entering the federal AI market requires a clear understanding of the evolving legal, regulatory, and policy framework. Failure to comply can delay market entry or result in lost opportunities.
Recent controversy involving AI developer Anthropic highlights how politically and commercially sensitive this space has become. Companies pursuing federal AI contracts must be prepared to demonstrate neutrality, transparency, and compliance with emerging federal standards and directives. A disciplined understanding of the governing rules, combined with proactive contingency planning, will better position organizations to compete effectively in the federal AI marketplace.
